Furnace Troubleshooting: What to Do Before Calling for Furnace Repair

You can’t depend on the weather in Brighton, but one thing the team at D & D Heating & AC wants you to be able to depend on is your heating and cooling system. Having a cozy home isn’t a seasonal thing, it’s something you require all year. When your furnace is having problems you may think that means a furnace repair can be looming on the horizon. That may not be the case. If your furnace hasn’t been its usual, stable self lately, there are a couple of things a homeowner can do before calling in the experts at D & D Heating & AC.

Check the Thermostat

We have received calls where we simply had to switch a thermostat from “cool” to “heat”. While changing the thermostat for the season, a homeowner can easily overlook flipping the switch, telling your heating and cooling system what you would like it to do.

Another thing to check while you’re at the thermostat is the battery. Almost all digital thermostats give a low battery warning, but if some time has passed since you’ve changed batteries it may be time for a switch. It’s another easy fix that could save you a repair call.

Check the Filter

A dirty air filter can create all sorts of complications. Not only will a dirty filter hinder your system’s efficiency and decrease air flow, it could also cause a sudden breakdown. Changing the filter in your heating and cooling system is effortless and it can play a major role in keeping your system running at its best.

Check the Switches

The first switch you’ll want to check is the breaker for your furnace. Sometimes a problem can be as minor as a tripped breaker or blown fuse.

Check the Vents

A frequent misconception is that a homeowner should close the vents in unused rooms. This could actually lead to a furnace repair down the line. Closed vents cause higher pressure inside your duct system and cause your system to work harder than it needs to.

If you’ve been through our troubleshooting tips and you’re still having problems the team at D & D Heating & AC are always there for you to make sure all of your home comfort needs are met. Give us a call at 720-316-1401.
