Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We encourage preventative maintenance on your heating and cooling system frequently, but this doesn’t only mean yearly tune-ups – it also involves looking at your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Today is the best time to check your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are many benefits to switching out your air filter for a replacement, such as:

Extending the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to instigate a system failure is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that is built up on your filter can influence your whole system to work harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it catches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your residence. As the filter gets older, the less capable it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your house, especially if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With increased temperatures around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it traveling in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and stay healthy throughout allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for guidance on how frequently you should be putting in a replacement filter. For many filters through D & D Heating & AC, we advise an annual change with the highest MERV filter you have access to. Not sure if it’s the right time to replace your air filter?
